Rather than spending the day moving between tourist attractions, we encourage our guests to connect with the landscape through a guided scenic walk, memorable viewpoints and a relaxed lunch at one of our favourite local establishments.

A Suggested Classic Blue Mountains Itinerary

8:30 AM – Private Pick-Up in Sydney

Your day begins with a private pick-up from your Sydney accommodation. Leaving the city behind, we travel west towards the foothills of the Blue Mountains.

Morning – Optional Featherdale Wildlife Park

For visitors hoping to meet Australia's native wildlife, we can begin at Featherdale Sydney Wildlife Park.

Here, you'll have the opportunity to see kangaroos, wallabies, koalas, wombats and a remarkable collection of Australian birds and reptiles.

An optional koala encounter and professional photograph can also be arranged, subject to availability.

Although the animals live in a managed environment, Featherdale also plays an important role in wildlife education and conservation, including breeding and recovery programs for threatened Australian species.

If wildlife parks aren't your preference, we can skip this stop and dedicate more time to the mountains.

Late Morning – Wentworth Falls & Scenic Walking

Once we reach the Blue Mountains National Park, it's time to experience the landscape on foot.

One of our favourite areas is Wentworth Falls, where walking trails reveal beautiful waterfalls, eucalyptus forests and sweeping views across the Jamison Valley.

We generally spend approximately one hour walking, although the exact route depends on your fitness level, weather conditions and interests.

Some guests enjoy a more energetic walk with steps and changing elevation, while others prefer gentler trails and scenic viewpoints. We can discuss the most suitable option before the tour.

Midday – A Relaxed Australian Lunch

After a morning outdoors, we stop for lunch at a local Australian pub or one of our preferred restaurants in the mountains.

Perhaps you'd enjoy a traditional chicken parmigiana, a perfectly cooked steak or something more contemporary using local produce.

The emphasis is on good food, welcoming hospitality and time to relax rather than rushing between attractions.

Afternoon – Three Sisters & Echo Point

No first visit to the Blue Mountains would be complete without seeing the famous Three Sisters.

At Echo Point, the enormous sandstone formations rise above the Jamison Valley, surrounded by a seemingly endless landscape of blue-green eucalyptus forests.

It's one of Australia's most recognisable natural landmarks, and deservedly so.

Depending on the day and available time, we may also visit additional lookouts before making our way back to Sydney.

A Special Weekend Addition: Megalong Valley Wine Tasting

For guests travelling on weekends, the Classic itinerary may include a visit to a local cellar door in the beautiful Megalong Valley.

The valley is known for its peaceful countryside, vineyards and magnificent views of the surrounding escarpments.

It's an opportunity to enjoy locally produced wines and discover another side of the Blue Mountains.

Weekend wine tasting is subject to cellar-door opening hours and the day's itinerary. Unlike our Connoisseur's experience, this is a regular public cellar-door visit rather than private estate access.

Choose the Classic experience if you're looking for a beautiful, nature-focused day with enough flexibility to include Australian wildlife, a scenic walk, great local food and some of the country's most iconic views.

It's an excellent introduction to the Blue Mountains without trying to squeeze too many activities into a single day.

2. Connoisseur's Blue Mountains: Wilderness, Wine & a Private Country Estate

Best for: Couples, food and wine enthusiasts, special celebrations and travellers seeking a more exclusive countryside experience.

Our Connoisseur's Blue Mountains journey begins much like the Classic.

We still explore the national park, enjoy a scenic walk and discover some of the region's most spectacular natural landscapes.

But after our morning in the mountains, the experience takes a different direction.

We leave the busier mountain villages behind and descend into the magnificent Megalong Valley, one of my favourite places in the entire region.

Surrounded by towering sandstone escarpments, rolling farmland and beautiful open countryside, the valley offers a completely different perspective of the Blue Mountains.

And this is where the Connoisseur's experience truly comes into its own.

A Suggested Connoisseur's Blue Mountains Itinerary

8:30 AM – Private Pick-Up in Sydney

We depart Sydney in the morning, travelling towards the Blue Mountains in the comfort of your private vehicle.

Morning – Wildlife & National Park Walking

Depending on your interests, we may visit Featherdale Wildlife Park before continuing into the national park.

Our morning includes approximately one hour of scenic walking, often around Wentworth Falls, taking in the region's extraordinary forests, waterfalls and sandstone scenery.

Midday – Into the Megalong Valley

After our walk, we descend from the mountain ridge into the peaceful countryside of the Megalong Valley.

The winding drive itself is memorable, with forests gradually giving way to open farmland, vineyards and dramatic views of the surrounding escarpments.

Lunch – Private Aussie-Style BBQ & Dryridge Estate Wines

Here, we arrive at a private country estate where Sydney Privé guests are welcomed for an experience not ordinarily available to the general public.

I'll prepare an Australian-style BBQ lunch, served in a beautiful countryside setting.

As a certified sommelier, I'll also introduce you to a selection of wines from Dryridge Estate, a boutique wine producer in the Megalong Valley.

The wine tasting is relaxed and conversational, with an opportunity to learn about the region, the wines and the people who produce them.

What makes this experience particularly special is the privacy.

Our guests enjoy access to a private property, including on days when the nearby public cellar door is closed.

There are no crowded tasting rooms or tightly scheduled group visits. Just a beautiful country setting, thoughtfully prepared food, local wines and time to appreciate where you are.

And while I have a great passion for wine, the experience is about far more than what's in your glass.

You might prefer a glass of wine with lunch, a non-alcoholic drink or simply an opportunity to relax and take in the view.

Afternoon – Iconic Lookouts & Return to Sydney

Following lunch, we make our way back towards the mountain ridge, with opportunities to enjoy the Three Sisters, Echo Point and other scenic locations as time permits.

We then begin our return journey to Sydney.

At approximately 12 hours, the Connoisseur's experience is a longer day, allowing us to combine the natural wonders of the Blue Mountains with the relaxed pace of a private countryside lunch.

1. How difficult are the walks in the Blue Mountains?

A basic level of fitness is required to participate in our guided national park walks.

We often explore the Wentworth Falls area, which offers spectacular scenery but can involve uneven ground, steps and changes in elevation.

Our typical walk lasts approximately one hour, although we can select alternative walking routes based on your interests, experience and fitness level.

Some guests enjoy a more energetic bushwalk, while others prefer a gentler walk with scenic stops.

We believe the best experience is one that allows you to enjoy the surroundings comfortably, so please let us know about any mobility concerns or walking preferences before booking.

2. Can we see kangaroos and koalas during the tour?

Absolutely, although it depends on whether you choose a wildlife park visit or hope to encounter animals in their natural habitat.

For guests who would particularly like to see koalas and kangaroos, we recommend an optional visit to Featherdale Sydney Wildlife Park.

Featherdale is home to a large collection of Australian native animals, including threatened species. While these animals live in captivity, the park also contributes to conservation education and species recovery efforts, including breeding programs supporting endangered wildlife.

An optional professional koala photograph can be arranged during your visit.

It's also important to understand that wild koalas are extremely difficult to spot. Although koalas inhabit parts of the Greater Blue Mountains, sightings on our regular touring routes are exceptionally rare.

Wild kangaroos, on the other hand, are sometimes spotted in the Megalong Valley, particularly during the cooler hours of the late afternoon.

Kangaroos tend to rest in shaded areas during the warmer parts of the day and become more active around dawn and dusk.

Wildlife sightings in nature can never be guaranteed, but encountering kangaroos in the Australian countryside is always a wonderful bonus.

3. Do your Blue Mountains tours include Scenic World?

No. Scenic World is not included in our Blue Mountains experiences.

Sydney Privé specialises in private, nature-focused touring, with an emphasis on scenic walks, beautiful lookouts, quieter locations and authentic local experiences.

Rather than spending part of the day on cable cars or tourist railway attractions, we prefer to spend that time exploring the national park itself.

If visiting Scenic World is an essential part of your Blue Mountains plans, we completely understand and would be happy to recommend an alternative operator whose tour is better suited to your preferences.

4. How long does a private Blue Mountains tour take?

Our Classic Blue Mountains Experience takes approximately 9–10 hours, including travel from Sydney.

Our Connoisseur's Blue Mountains Experience takes approximately 12 hours, allowing additional time for our private BBQ lunch, wine tasting and exploration of the Megalong Valley.

Both experiences generally begin with an 8:30 AM pick-up from your Sydney accommodation.

Exact return times depend on traffic, weather conditions and the itinerary selected.

5. Is the Blue Mountains tour suitable for children and families?

Yes. Both experiences can be wonderful for families, particularly those who enjoy spending time outdoors.

The Classic tour is often a natural choice for families interested in wildlife, waterfalls, scenic viewpoints and exploring the Australian bush.

However, the Connoisseur's experience can also be an excellent family day, especially for those who enjoy countryside settings and relaxed outdoor dining.

The most important consideration is your family's comfort with walking and the length of the day.

We can discuss suitable walking routes and adjust the itinerary to accommodate different ages and interests.

6. Can we visit the Blue Mountains without going to a wildlife park?

Of course.

Featherdale Wildlife Park is entirely optional.

Some of our guests have already visited Australian wildlife parks, while others simply prefer spending more time in nature.

Skipping Featherdale allows us to dedicate additional time to walking trails, scenic lookouts, mountain villages or, when available, a local wine experience.

The choice is yours.

7. Can we enjoy the Connoisseur's experience if we don't drink wine?

Absolutely.

While food and wine are an important part of Sydney Privé's identity, we also believe in promoting a healthy, balanced lifestyle.

The Megalong Valley is worth visiting for its extraordinary landscapes, peaceful atmosphere and beautiful countryside alone.

The privately hosted BBQ is designed to be enjoyed as a relaxed outdoor dining experience, with wine offered as a complementary element rather than the sole focus.

Whether you enjoy a tasting, prefer a non-alcoholic beverage or choose not to drink at all, the experience remains just as special.

After all, the best memories are often about the places we discover and the people we share them with.

8. Can you accommodate dietary requirements?

Yes, with advance notice.

For the Connoisseur's experience, we can discuss dietary requirements and preferences before the tour to help plan the private BBQ menu however, we cannot cater for vegans and vegetarians

Whether you have food allergies or have particular dietary needs, please let us know when enquiring so we can discuss suitable arrangements.

For Classic tours, we can recommend restaurants with appropriate menu options and arrange lunch reservations where possible.

9. What happens if it rains or walking trails are closed?

The Blue Mountains are beautiful in changing weather, and a little mist or light rain can create a particularly atmospheric landscape.

However, your safety and enjoyment always come first.

If a particular walking trail is closed or unsuitable, we can usually select an alternative route or adjust the itinerary.

If severe weather is forecast and conditions are unlikely to allow us to enjoy the mountains properly, we can discuss alternative arrangements.

Depending on availability and your interests, this may mean rescheduling the tour to another day or considering a different destination, such as the Hunter Valley, where a food and wine-focused experience may be more suitable.

Any changes would be discussed with you in advance, including any applicable booking or supplier conditions.

10. How far are the Blue Mountains from Sydney?

The Blue Mountains are approximately 90 minutes to two hours from central Sydney, depending on traffic and where we plan to visit.

The region is much larger than many first-time visitors realise.

Exploring Wentworth Falls, Katoomba, the Three Sisters and the Megalong Valley involves travelling between different areas, which is why we recommend dedicating a full day rather than trying to rush through the highlights.

Our private tours include pick-up and return to your Sydney accommodation, allowing you to enjoy the journey without worrying about driving, parking or navigation.
